Towards zero liquid waste in plating by development and validation of closed-loop eco-efficient processes

Every day hundreds thousand m3 of used water issued from water-treatment plants of the plating workshops of the EC are discharged in the natural environment.

These plants do not always work properly which entails with inconvenient toxic waste difficult to spot and quantify.

In front of this fact several member states already forbid liquid waste in ecologically sensitive zones (groundwaters…) and foresee a total banning of such waste in the years to come.

The objective of the proposal is to reach the zero liquid waste on site by developing and validating a group of techniques of recycling and purification of effluents.

Innovation aims as well at the limitation of pollution at its origin as the cleanup of effluents and the recycling of the recovered water; they will be applicable to all plating workshops as replacement or as supplement to the existing water-treatment plants.
